What is OFY?


Outdoors For Youth is a 5-day, Gospel-centric outdoor adventure camp for youth aged 14-18, located 30 minutes east of Rexburg, ID.




Is this AFY? EFY?


While OFY, AFY and EFY share many of the same beliefs, standards, goals, and objectives, OFY is an independent program run by the non-profit organization, Teton Experience. OFY is not affiliated with AFY, EFY, BYU, BYU-Idaho nor the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Prayer, scripture study, and church attendance are an important part of OFY.




What happened to AFY?


AFY was sponsored by BYU-Idaho and headquartered at Badger Creek, the school’s Outdoor Education Center. In October of 2017 the school announced it’s decision to close Badger Creek and eliminate AFY. School spokesman Brett Crandall said to the campus newspaper that the closures were, “an effort to strategically reduce and simplify campus programs.”




Where will OFY be held?


OFY is held at Canyon Creek Outdoor Learning Center on the slopes of the Big Hole Mountains, about 30 minutes outside of Rexburg, in Newdale, ID.




Do I need to sign up for SMS notifications in the registration?


You do not need to subscribe to SMS notifications in the registration.




What is your refund policy?


There is a $50 cancellation fee for any cancellation 31 + days prior to the starting day of your session. There is a cancellation fee of $100 if you cancel 22-30 days prior to the starting day of your session. The cancellation fee increases to $150 if you cancel 15-21 days prior to the starting day of your session. 8-14 days prior to the starting day of your session, you will receive 50% of your registration. If you cancel within 7 days of the starting day of your session, no refund will be granted. Cancellations of a medical nature will be assessed on an individual bases.




I am from out of state, how do you suggest I get to and from camp?


We suggest using Salt Lake Express. When booking make sure you select the BYUI stop (12:35 pm for Monday and 4:30 pm on Friday). When they get there, the driver will make an announcement to stay on the bus and they will drop OFY campers off directly at check-in. If you are using a different shuttle service, please send OFY an email the week before.




Where is pick up and drop off for camp?


Check-ins and outs will happen at Madison Middle School in Rexburg, ID. Madison Middle School 575 W 7th S Rexburg, ID 83440




What is the dress code while at camp?


We follow the guidelines lined out by the For Strength of Youth. We want all campers to be modest and comfortable while at camp. Shorts are allowed, but, again, make sure they are modest in length. Sandals must have a back strap. From the For Strength of Youth “Immodest clothing is any clothing that is tight, sheer, or revealing in any other manner. Young women should avoid short shorts and short skirts, shirts that do not cover the stomach, and clothing that does not cover the shoulders or is low-cut in the front or the back. Young men should also maintain modesty in their appearance. Young men and young women should be neat and clean and avoid being extreme or inappropriately casual in clothing, hairstyle, and behavior.”




Will I have cell service at camp?


Cell service is very limited at camp, do not count on it. If you have something pressing, just ask a counselor and they will get you access to a landline.




When will I get my info packet for camp?


We’ll email out an info packet about four weeks before camp with info on rafting waivers, letters from home, pack list & pick up and drop off info.




What’s the deal with rafting waivers?


All campers under 18 need an online waiver filled out by their parent or legal guardian. You will receive and email to the same email that signed up for camp from our rafting company, Mad River a week before camp. If you have multiple children attending, you need to fill out the waiver FOR EACH CAMPER. If you have any questions about waivers please email Mad River directly reservations@mad-river.com.




My child has a food allergy/diet limitation, are they still welcome?


Yes! Our kitchen staff has a lot of experience with a variety of limitations. There is space during the registration process to fill out the detail about your child’s limitations. We do request a doctor’s note be brought to camp. Our kitchen lead will contact you a week before camp to go over the menu with you.




Can I request a roommate?


Yes! Make sure an fill it out during the registration process. We are only able to promise one person you have requested in order to accommodate for all of the requests we recieve. Groups will be separated by age. By policy, if a request is made for two participants with an age gap, we will put them both in a group with the age of the younger participant. Please let us know if there is any special circumstances that require a change.




I need to leave camp early, what do I do?


Bring an early release form to check ins . We will make sure that you get where you need to be so your parents can pick you up. All participants that need to leave early will need to be picked up from OFY in Newdale, ID. If, for some reason, circumstances won't allow a participant to be picked up at camp, give us a call and we will be happy to help.




I need to contact my child while they are at camp, what do I do?


Just give us a call on our landline or shoot us an email at ofycamps@gmail.com.




Can I charge my phone at camp?


There are no outlets available while at camp. However, if you need to contact someone we are happy to help.




What is OFY doing for COVID-19?


We will be continuing all of the covid procedures we had in place last summer (additional hand washing, screening at check ins, sleeping head to toe, being outside, etc.) that led to sucessful summer. We are working with our local health department and other medical professionals to put in place additional safeguards!
